The following text is a short history of EECHO Systems, Inc.

EECHO Systems, Inc. was originally started with the goal of providing schools with complete enclosed habitats for both terrestrial and aquatic plants and animals. ESI's designs have included simple aquarium set-ups to Central American rain forest microhabitats.

ESI Provides a full range of environmental displays and equipment. We have provided schools with both marine and fresh- water aquarium set-ups. These have included plants and animals; stands; lighting; mechanical, chemical and biological filtration; temperature control (both heating and cooling); chemical testing equipment; water conditioning chemicals; synthetic sea salt mixes; foods; reference books; curriculum guides and textbooks, and on-site training.

We offer hundreds different species of marine and freshwater fishes, invertebrates and plants. Some of these species we collect ourselves, others we acquire from other collectors and breeders and the remainder we breed and grow-out in our own facilities.

What sets ESI apart from other academic suppliers is that we work with our clients on an on-going basis. For local (Greater Kansas City area schools) we go to the school and set-up or assist with the set-up of the systems we sell. We are available during regular business hours for free telephone consultation for everything from water chemistry problems, to animal breeding questions, to disease diagnosis and treatment. ESI assists with program development and teacher and student training. We can develop everything from special district-wide programs to individual students' research projects (the students we assist routinely go on to win prizes and recognition in local, state and national science competitions).

Our clients have included the Kansas City, Missouri, School District, the Park Hill School District, The Independence, Missouri, School District, the Shawnee Mission, Kansas, School District, Purdue University, Cornell University, Francis Marion College, and the Aquarium at Niagara Falls. ESI provided the lead consulting and design for the Shoals Alabama Aquarium (Florence, Alabama), and we helped design an aquarium system for future space shuttle missions for Star Enterprises.

Over the past 10 years ESI has expanded and while it continues to work with schools and colleges and universities, it now serves public aquariums and the professional pet trade. ESI operates its own fish hatchery for the quarantine, breeding and grow-out of common, rare and unusual freshwater fishes. ESI serves over 200 retail aquarium and pet shops in the Midwest.
