ABOUT AQUASCIENCE RESEARCH GROUP

AquaScience Research Group was started in 1974 as a division of General Drug & Chemical Corporation. In July of 1982, ARG bought itself out of General Drug and incorporated as a separate corporation.

The purpose of ARG has been to do basic research and into problems in aquariculture and aquaculture and the associated sciences and technologies and to develop solutions to those problems. As a result of its studies and research, ARG has contacts among fish-related researchers, businesses, and organizations around the world.

ARG has a working R&D laboratory (which includes analytical and synthetic chemical equipment and facilities, analytical instrumentation (including gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, spectrophotometry, and specific-ion electrochemistry), and aquariums for both marine and freshwater testing. ARG employs and trains degreed chemists, ichthyologists, aquatic researchers, biologists, and veterinarians. ARG provides free consulting to other professionals (e.g. from public aquariums, zoos, colleges, and universities), governmental agencies (e.g. state and federal fish hatcheries, fish and game agencies, plant and animal health agencies, and municipal water treatment companies), industry and aquarium hobbyists. ARG also houses one of the largest libraries in the Midwest devoted to aquarium subjects and other, related, subject areas. Its holdings include Journal of Fish Diseases, Progressive Fish-culturist, Journal of Aquariculture & Aquatic Sciences, Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, Copeia, and Journal of Aquatic Animal Health.

An index of the complete library holdings will soon be available for those interested in locating a given book, journal, or author.

ARG has been developing and maintaining the "FISHDRUG/TXT" since 1978. Now available as the "FishNet Personal Data - FishDrug Database" on FISHNET, it is the most complete and up-to-date unannotated bibliography of the drugs and chemicals used in the treatment of fish diseases. You must have already established a CompuServe account to be able to connect to and use this database.
