Alabama Skunks As Pets is proud to present...
The 14th Annual National Skunk Show |
| Hello, and welcome to the 14th Annual National Skunk Show! This year's show is being sponsored by the Alabama chapter of Skunks as Pets, Inc., a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting better care, welfare and understanding of domestically-bred pet skunks. S.A.P. welcomes new members, whether they own skunks or are just fascinated by them - please ask for information if you might be interested in joining!
This is the first time the National Skunk Show has been held in Alabama - past shows have been hosted in Augusta, Georgia (home of the original, founding chapter of Skunks as Pets) and Port Orange, Florida. We hope you will enjoy this look at the fascinating world of Skunks as Pets! |
| Many people, once they've met them, find skunks to be charming creatures and start thinking of getting one as a pet of their own. While skunks DO make wonderful pets, they are also intelligent, willful, mischievous, unbelieveably stubborn, and very, very demanding of their "owners" time and affection. We strongly recommend that before making that commitment, any prospective skunk owner should read "Skunk Stuff" by Jane Bone (a.k.a. "The Skunklady"). It's a distillation of the knowledge she's gained over 30+ years of raising and caring for pet skunks, and is available free of charge as a public service at: http://www.skunksaspets.com/skunkstuff.htm. All the material therein is available for public use and information, but it is copyrighted, is not to be sold or otherwise profited from, and must be credited when cited (as in this program book - Thanks Jane!). There's also a LOT of other info at this site. Some of the most valuable is contact information for vets who'll treat domestic skunks (few and far between - we're unbelieveably lucky to have two in the Huntsville area, both serving as Judges at this show!) and how to reach the nearest branch of Skunks as Pets or Jane herself. |
