EXPEDITION ON THE PUTUMAYO RIVER
February 3-11 2001
The Putumayo River on the northern border of Peru is one of the least explored major rivers in the world. This is a rare opportunity to visit and explore the area, and to collect tropical fish and study and photograph reptiles and amphibians in a pristine and incredibly beautiful environment. Very few people live along the Putumayo River, and the river and its watershed has been rarely visited by scientists or collectors, consequently many species of fish, reptiles and amphibians in the area doubtless remain to be discovered and described. The Putumayo River is also the only location in the country of Peru that is known to have natural populations of the highly desirable Discus fish. This unique expedition will be accompanied by Dr. David Schleser, a recognized expert on Amazonian fishes and professional nature photographer. Also accompanying the expedition will be Dr. Devon Graham, a tropical ecologist/biologist with many years of experience in the Peruvian Amazon region.
